About Us

On The Beach Holiday started because we got tired of showing up to “hidden” beaches that were anything but. You know the ones — plastered all over Instagram, packed shoulder to shoulder, with a queue for the one decent photo spot.

So we started keeping a list. Beaches we actually stumbled on. Ones locals told us about over dinner. Places that took a dirt road, a short hike, or just knowing where to look. Over time, that list turned into this site.

What this site is

A straightforward guide to beaches that are worth the effort. Each listing includes how to get there, what to expect, and whether it's actually worth the trip. No fluff, no sponsored rankings. If a beach is hard to reach, we say so. If it's overrated, we skip it entirely.

We cover beaches across Europe, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Africa, and Oceania. Some are well-known to locals but invisible to tourists. Others are genuinely off the map.

How we rate beaches

Our ratings are based on five factors: water clarity, scenery, crowd levels, accessibility, and facilities. Every beach is scored across all five, and the overall rating is an average. It's straightforward and transparent — no mysterious algorithms or paid placements. A 4.8 means we think it's exceptional. A 3.5 means it's solid but has trade-offs.

We also cross-reference with Google Reviews and local sources to make sure our assessments hold up. If something changes — a beach gets developed, access gets restricted — we update accordingly.

Who runs this

A small team of travellers and writers who'd rather spend a week on an unnamed stretch of coast than a day at a resort. We're not a travel agency. We don't book trips or sell packages. The site is independent and runs on the belief that the best travel information should be free and honest.
